There is no salvation outside of the Catholic Church. This is a dogma taught infallibly by the Popes and must be believed by all the Faithful. Our Lord founded One Church, “My Church” as he called it in Matthew 16:18, which St. Paul said was the “pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim 3:15). The Church is truth and contains all the truths that we must believe in order to be saved. Just as Our Lord is the Way, the Truth and the Life, so also is the Church. Who would not want to belong to the Holy Church, knowing Our Lord willed that men be saved through Her and knowing that He shed every last drop of His Blood for His Bride, the Church?
This Dogma is taught by Our Lord in Sacred Scripture and confirmed by the first Pope, Peter:
“If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch, and shall wither, and they shall gather
him up, and cast him into the fire, and he burneth.” ~John 15:6
“Whoever listens to you listens to me. Whoever rejects you rejects me. And whoever rejects me rejects the one who sent me.” ~Luke 10:16
If he refuses to listen even to the church, then treat him as you would a Gentile or a tax collector.” ~Matthew 18:17
“Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God hath raised from the dead, even by him this man standeth here before you whole. This is the stone which was rejected by you the builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other. For there is no other name under heaven given to men, whereby we must be saved.” ~Acts 4:10-12
Here is what the Popes taught infallibly on this dogma:
“There is indeed one universal Church of the faithful, outside of which nobody is saved, in which Jesus Christ is both priest and sacrifice.” ~Pope Innocent III, Fourth Lateran Council, 1215
“We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff.” ~Pope Boniface VIII, in the bull, Unam Sanctam, 1302
“The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes, and teaches, that none of those who are not within the Catholic Church, not only pagans, but Jews, heretics and schismatics, can ever be partakers of eternal life, but are to go into the eternal fire ‘prepared for the devil, and his angels’ (Mt. 25:41)., unless before the close of their lives they shall have entered into that Church; also that the unity of the ecclesiastical body is such that the Church’s sacraments avail only those abiding in that Church, and that fasts, almsdeeds, and other works of piety which play their part in the Christian combat are in her alone productive of eternal rewards; moreover, that no one, no matter what alms he may have given, not even if he were to shed his blood for Christ’s sake, can be saved unless he abide in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.” ~Pope Eugene IV, in the bull, Cantate Domino, 1441
These statements are ex cathedral statements of the Popes, which means they are infallible teachings of the Church which must be believed in order to be saved. They are not subject to change, no matter how much this teaching is undermined by those who say that any and all religion can go to Heaven. Heaven is not a pan-religious heaven! There is only one religion and that is the Catholic Religion.
Saints and other Popes have spoken on this Dogma and reaffirmed it:
“It is a sin to believe that there is salvation outside the Catholic Church.” ~Venerable Pope Pius IX
“There is no salvation outside the Catholic Church. Anyone who resists this truth perishes.” ~St. Louis Maria de Montfort
“We must believe that the Roman Catholic Church is the only true church; hence they who are out of our Church or they who are separated from it, cannot be saved.” ~St. Alphonsus Maria Liguori
“The holy universal Church teaches that God cannot be truly adored except within its fold; she affirms that all those who are separated from her will not be saved.” ~St. Gregory the Great
“It is impossible for the most true God, who is Truth itself, the best, the wisest Provider, and the Rewarder of good men, to approve all sects who profess false teachings which are often inconsistent with each other and contradictory, and to confer eternal rewards on their members…by divine Faith we hold one Lord, one faith, one baptism…This is why we profess there is no salvation outside the Catholic Church.” ~Pope Leo XII, Ubi Primum
“With the admonition of the Apostle that ‘there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism’ (Eph 4:5), may those fear who contrive the notion that the safe harbor of salvation is open to persons of any religion whatsoever. They should consider the testimony of Christ Himself that ‘those who are not with Christ are against Him’, (Luke 11:23) and that they disperse unhappily who do not gather with Him. Therefore, ‘without a doubt, they will perish forever, unless they hold the Catholic Faith whole and inviolate’ (Athanasian Creed). “ ~Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos
“The Church alone possesses together with her magisterium the power of governing and sanctifying society. Through her ministers and servants (each in his own station and office), she confers on mankind suitable and necessary means for salvation.” ~Pope St. Pius X, Editae Saepe
“The Catholic Church is alone in keeping the true worship. This is the fount of truth, this is the house of faith, this is the temple of God: if any man enter not here, of if any man go forth from it, he is a stranger to the hope of life and salvation.” ~Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos
“If anyone is outside the Ark of Noe he will perish in the over-whelming flood.” ~St. Jerome
“For unless one preserves the faith entire and uninjured, he will without doubt perish forever.” ~Bl. Pope Pius IX, “Qui Pluribus”, 1846 A.D.
“All who wish to reach salvation outside the Church are mistaken as to the way and are engaged in a futile effort.” ~Pope Leo XIII
“The Church is like the ark of Noah, outside of which nobody can be saved.” ~St. Thomas Aquinas
“Ensure that the faithful are deeply and thoroughly convinced of the truth of the doctrine that the Catholic faith is necessary for attaining salvation.” ~Bl. Pope Pius IX, “Nostis et Nobiscum”, 1849 A.D.
“We know that salvation belongs to the Church alone, and that no one can partake of Christ nor be saved outside the Catholic Church and the Catholic Faith.” ~St. John Chrysostom
“There is no entering into salvation outside the Church, just as in the time of the deluge there was none outside the Ark, which denotes the Church, according to 1 Peter 3:20, 21.” ~St. Thomas Aquinas
“A man cannot have salvation, except in the Catholic Church. Outside the Catholic Church he can have everything except salvation. He can have honor, he can have Sacraments, he can sing alleluia, he can answer amen, he can possess the gospel, he can have and preach faith in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; but never except in the Catholic Church will he be able to find salvation.” ~St. Augustine
“Urged by faith, we are obliged to believe and to maintain that the Church is one, holy, catholic, and also apostolic. We believe in her firmly and we confess with simplicity that outside of her there is neither salvation nor the remission of sins, as the Spouse in the Canticles (Sgs. 6:8) proclaims: ‘One is my dove, my perfect one. She is the only one, the chosen of her who bore her,’ and she represents one sole mystical body whose Head is Christ and the head of Christ is God (1 Cor. 11:3). In her then is one Lord, one faith, one baptism (Eph. 4:5). There had been at the time of the deluge only one ark of Noah, prefiguring the one Church, which ark, having been finished to a single cubit, had only one pilot and guide, i.e., Noah, and we read that, outside of this ark, all that subsisted on the earth was destroyed.” ~Pope Boniface VIII, “Unam Sanctam”, 1302 A.D
“There is one God, and Christ is one, and there is one Church, and one chair founded upon the rock by the word of the Lord. Another altar cannot be constituted nor a new priesthood be made, except the one altar and the one priesthood. Whosoevergathereth elsewhere scattereth. Whatsoever is appointed by human madness, so that the divine disposition is violated, is adulterous, is impious, is sacrilegious.” ~St. Cyprian of Carthage
Pope Pius IX, in His Syllubus of Errors, condemned the notion that one can be saved in any religion:
“Man may, in the observance of any religion whatever, find the way of eternal salvation, and arrive at eternal salvation.” ~Condemned
“There is good reason at least to hope for the eternal salvation of those who are in no way in the true Church of Christ.” ~Condemned
“Protestantism is simply another form of the same true Christian religion, and it is possible to please God just as much in it as in the Catholic Church.” ~Condemned
Therefore, it has always been the unchangeable teaching of the Church that there is no salvation outside of Her. I must speak on the current crisis in the Church for this dogma and the crisis go together. In today’s Church, the Pope doesn’t even want proselytism, which is converting souls to the One True Faith. Instead, it seems the Pope wants us to “accompany” people and “dialogue.” “Dialogue” and “accompany” to what end? Only God knows, but there’s certainly nothing Catholic about refusing to teach souls the True Faith for their salvation. The reason for the Church’s existence is for the salvation of souls. It is the Pope’s solemn duty to bring souls to the true Faith and we must say that he is failing in His duty. Just recently, he told the schismatic Patriarch of the Orthodox Church that the Catholic Church is requiring nothing of them for unity. For one thing, unity is found in the Catholic Church. She is unity. She is united with Her Head, Christ, who is the Way. What the Pope is speaking of is a One World Religion. All need to be united insofar as all false religions must convert to the Catholic Church, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. He must do his solemn duty and teach that there is no salvation outside of the Church. The Bishops and Priests must teach this, as well.
It is time that the doctrines and dogmas of the Church are taken out of the dust bin and placed back on the throne for the world to see. The Traditional Catholic Faith has been undermined and ignored for far too long, to the detriment of souls, hungering for the truth. It may not be “nice” today to teach that salvation is only found in Christ’s Church, but it is the truth. It is how God wishes it. He founded One Church and wants all men to be united to that One Church for salvation.
Your Holiness, Your Excellencies, Fathers, if you do not believe that the Catholic Church is the true Church, without which there is no salvation, then what is your reason for being an ordained cleric? It is your solemn duty to proclaim this dogma and the whole Catholic Faith. It is what you swore at your ordinations. If you aren’t willing to do this, you should humbly step down and say that you have not the courage to do so and allow courageous men to take your place, who fear nothing and desire one thing, the salvation of souls. Enough of your pandering to false religions! Enough of lowering down the Holy Church of Christ to the level of man-made religions! Enough of confirming non-Catholics in their errors, allowing them to falsely believe that we all go to heaven and it matters not if you are Catholic! Enough of undermining this most essential dogma! Enough of your sentimental nonsense about hurting people’s feelings! Enough of turning our Holy Religion into a protestant sect that has neither dogma nor discipline! The teachings of the Church must be enforced! This is your duty. You have ignored and undermined the foundations of our Faith for long enough!
The true Faith will triumph. Come, holy Pope, holy Bishops and Priests, you who are prophesied for centuries to restore the Church! Come and set things aright! Come, valiant solders of the Church, proclaim that there is no salvation outside of the Church so that souls may be saved!
If you want peace and happiness, Christ and His Church are what you seek.
Salvation is only to be found with Christ and His Church.
The Church has spoken on this. Let it be believed.
~Damsel of the Faith
